This seminar discusses the concept of construction project schedule acceleration: What, why, and how. It includes topics from both the owner and contractor’s perspectives. It shows how cost, both direct and indirect, reacts to schedule acceleration, and thus the time-cost trade-off. It discusses steps for shortening the duration of the construction project, using the concept of the critical path method, step by step. The seminar includes many important hints, whether the objective of the contractor is to minimize cost, complete the project on a specific date, or crash the project to the minimum duration. Most importantly, it proves through a simple numerical example that this process is scientific, and it is not random dumping of extra resources.

This seminar provides tips and hints for the project management team members, particularly planners, schedulers, project control officers, and project managers on the time-cost trade-off in construction projects. This is particularly important as the cost-time prioritization differs from one case to another.

Schedule acceleration is an art and science. It is NOT random dumping of extra resources on the project worksite. It has to be planned and calculated carefully for the optimum results.

What You Will Learn:

Attendees will learn the principles of schedule acceleration and the time-cost trade-off for making the best decision regarding acceleration. It is widely known that schedule acceleration will increase the total cost of construction projects, but this is not always the case! In this seminar, we will see that schedule acceleration to a point (least-cost duration) will actually decrease the cost. This may entice the contractor to study the project schedule acceleration even when acceleration is not needed, but only to lower the cost.

What We Will Cover:

  • The concept of construction project schedule acceleration
  • Why do owners demand schedule acceleration and why do contractors accelerate projects?
  • Explaining the concept of how schedule acceleration works and its impact on direct, indirect, and total cost.
  • Accelerating a construction project using a simple example on an Excel sheet.
  • Hints for accelerating a construction project using computers
  • Hints and tips for the process of accelerating construction projects
  • Allowing the contractor to make an informed decision on what project duration is optimum for every case, and how can you achieve it.

Who Should Attend:

Architects, engineers (of all disciplines), contractors, subcontractors, project managers, planners, schedulers, cost estimators, project controllers, project management team members, owners.
